Lance Briggs Marc Trestman should have n

In 2013, the hired Marc Trestman to help fix . And while Cutler showed improvement in an injury-shortened first season -- he ranked James Daniels Jersey 13th in ' value-per-play metric -- he threw a league-leading 18 interceptions in his second season and the Bears went from 8-8 to 5-11. NFL preseason Trestman was fired and his final stat line fell well short of expectations: A 13-19 record and a point differential of -156. It's why former Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, who played for Trestman and Lovie Smith before him, thinks Trestman never should have been hired."Everybody in Chicago knows that Trestman shouldn't have been here," Briggs said Monday during an interview on the "Spiegel and Goff Show" on . "He shouldn't have been a coach here. Not to take anything from him, he's a great coach, but he wasn't a coach the Chicago Bears should've had. That's just the truth. I Adam Shaheen Jersey was one of the guys, (Charles) Peanut (Tillman) was one of the guys that had to live through that those next two years (in 2013 and 2014), where if it ain't broke, then what are you trying to fix?"By comparison, Smith spent nine seasons in Chicago and went 81-63, including 10-6 in his final year with the club. He also led the Bears to the playoffs three times, and to a appearance in 2006."I know we wanted to improve our offense, but we had a team that .... should've been in the championship game. We went 10-6 and should've been in the playoffs," Briggs continued. "The year before, we were in the (NFC) championship game. So what exactly is it that you really need to fix about Eddie Goldman Jersey the team? We had great leadership and things like that, and you saw things kind of go in a different direction. It's not the way Chase Daniel Jersey you want to end your career, but I still had great relationships, from the coaches to the players and the city." The answer is Jay Cutler. Of course, things went so far off the rails in Trestman's second season, that he actually benched Cutler for . That probably qualifies as the nadir of Cutler's career, though he bounced back nicely last season under offensive coordinator Adam Gase, who is now the ' head coach."(The new staff is) innovative. Smart," Cutler said in April 2015, shortly after Trestman was replaced by John Fox, who brought Gase with him from Denver to Chicago. "It's a Walter Payton Jersey joy to work with these guys right now."Cutler would completed 64 percent of his throws last season, with 21 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a career-best 92.3 pa ser rating. He also ranked ninth among all quarterbacks in , ahead of ahead of and . Whether Cutler can replicate his succe s is one of the biggest questions facing the Bears. Gase is gone, replaced by quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains, so there is some consistency there. Meanwhile, Trestman is the offensive coordinator in Baltimore, and Smith is in his first season as the coach at the University of Illinois.

Freddie Kitchens responds to Bob Wylies

Freddie Kitchens didn't mince words when asked about former offensive line coach Bob Wylie's .Wylie, who was not retained when the Browns overhauled their coaching staff this offseason, on The Zach Gelb Show on CBS Adam Shaheen Jersey Sports Radio that former Clevland quarterbacks coach Kenny Zampese, not Kitchens, was mostly responsible for the Browns' second half turnaround during the 2018 season. Kitchens was named the Browns' new head coach following Cleveland's 5-2-1 finish to the 2018 season following the midseason firing of former head coach Hue Jackson.Wylie also said that that his daughter informed him of Cleveland's decision not to renew his contract while Wylie was in the hospital after taking a leave from the Browns in December to deal with knee and ankle injuries.Kitchens was immediately asked about Wylie's comments at the start of Monday's post-practice media se sion. HC Freddie Kitchens at the podium Cleveland Browns (@Browns) "I know Bob Wylie to be a good person," said Kitchens, who worked alongside Wylie throughout the 2018 season. "And out of respect for his family, I won't get into any of that. Because he's a father, he's a husband, he's a granddad. But Bob knows what happened. Bob knows what was going on. And when he was here, he knew everything about it. So, that was last year."Listen, Bob wasn't under contract," Kitchens continued. "He forgot to tell everybody that. He wasn't under contract. He had talked about retiring forever, alright? So, sometimes when a person says something, they have to be made to feel relevant, OK? Bob's a good person, and I don't wanna lose sight of that. I have too much respect for him as a person. NFL Chicago Bears Jersey "It appears that two things are bothering Kitchens more than Wylie's recent criticism. One thing is how Wylie's comments overshadowed the good things that are currently happening around the Browns' organization. Cleveland recently hosted an open practice Bobby Massie Jersey for their fans at FirstEnergy Stadium, with ticket sales from the event going towards the team's recently founded to help support Ohio-area schools. "We just had 40,000 people in a stadium for a practice, where all the proceeds went to the Get Started Initiative that the Browns have done," Kitchens said. "So, that got lost in the shuffle of all the stuff that happened last year."It's also clear that Kitchens is tired of leaks and unnamed sources that are coming from within Browns headquarters. Kitchens vowed to put a swift end to anyone he sees doing anything of the sort moving forward."The days of inside information and the days of unnamed sources and stuff like that have ended," he said. "So you're not going to get any information like that, ever. Anybody. And I ever see it, they're fired, immediately. And that's how we're running this organization. I can take it. Cleveland GM John Dorsey can take it. We won't crack, I promise you." Kitchens is in uncharted waters. Not only is he a first-time head coach (at any level), Kitchens is presiding over a team that has extremely high expectations entering the 2019 season. Kitchens' roster is one that includes several high profile stars, including quarterback , receiver Jr. and running back . Not only does Kitchens have to try to put together a Pat O'Donnell Jersey championship-caliber product this season, he has to do so while also managing the many personalities on his team while also dealing with remaining in the national media circuit on a weekly basis.Dealing with heightened media distractions is one of the challenges of coaching a team with championship expectations. The have become the standard when it comes to blocking out the outside noise while not losing sight of the goal: a title. The , a perennial AFC North favorite and Cleveland's historical rival, has struggled in recent years with regard to blocking the outside noise while remaining focused on the ultimate goal. In a twist of irony, Pittsburgh is now the team that is flying under the radar of national scrutiny, while the Browns are now learning how to Joel Iyiegbuniwe Jersey deal with being under the microscope.Despite the new challenges that continue to surround his team, Kitchens made it clear on Monday that he believes that he is strong enough to withstand any storm that comes at him and his team. Whether or not his team is also up to the task is what will ultimately determine the fate of the 2019 Browns.

Melvin Gordon says the Broncos want seco

The had a true 50-50 split in their backfield last season. Rookie and veteran each carried the ball 203 times and both averaged roughly the same yards per carry. With Gordon heading into New York Mets T-Shirts free agency this offseason, it seemed like Williams was going to ascend to become a true lead back for the Broncos in 2022 (and become a darling in the proce s).In a somewhat surprising move, however, Gordon re-signed with Denver, inking a one-year deal with the team in late April. Despite Gordon's return, it doesn't seem like there will be the same shared workload this coming season between the two backs."I think they have a plan on what Robinson Cano Jersey they want heading in, but as far as the rotation goes, I really don't know," Gordon said Wednesday, via "I think they want 'Vonte' to be the guy, but we do rotate. He'll take the first series and then the second series with the No. 1 offense , I'll take. Sometimes we switch, but you know kind of how it is."I don't know how they will do the rotation. I have to go back and look at how they did Nolan Ryan Jersey things in Green Bay with the carries and things like that. My mom says just go out here and compete and go as hard as I can. I don't know what the future holds other than that, but I just want to put my best foot forward so when I do so out there, they go, 'OK, we need to get him out there more.' I know I have the game; I know I can play and I still have the juice, but we'll see." DEN RB #33 Att203Yds903TD4FL1 While Gordon's return may muddy the waters for folks merely looking at this from a fantasy perspective, he does add great backfield depth to a Broncos team that is now looking to contend in the AFC after the acquisition of this offseason.Denver also hired Nathaniel Hackett to be its newest head coach after serving as the offensive coordinator Neil Walker Jersey in Green Bay from 2019 to 2021. Over the last few years under Hackett, the backfield did show that he can utilize multiple backs with and, more recently, AJ Dillion enjoying succe s alongside star back . With that in mind, there could be plenty of opportunity for both Williams and Gordon to Devin Mesoraco Jersey have succe s, albeit with Williams serving as the main man in the backfield in a similar fashion to Jones. Williams certainly showed last season that he can give Denver's offense a higher ceiling when on the field. He was able to break 31 tackles last season and was a reliable option in the pa sing game, catching 81.1% of his targets.

Raiders reportedly not planning to have

The are not planning to have receiver for their Week 1 opener against the on Monday night, according to . At this point, it's unclear if Oakland or if he'll simply be inactive. In any event, it doesn't look like he'll Gregor Blanco Jersey be on the field with his new team. The significance about whether or not Brown will be suspended for Week 1 or inactive . If he's suspended, Brown could lose out on nearly $30 million of guaranteed money from the Raiders. If he's simply inactive, New York Mets T-Shirts that money (for the moment) will remain on the table. While appearing on Network, Brown's agent Drew Rosenhaus was asked about a potential suspension for Week 1. "That's really up to the Raiders," he said. "My hope is there won't be a suspension. I'm not aware of any as of yet. That's their decision. I'm working with them to try and avoid that scenario." Moments ago, my colleague did her usual stellar job by getting to give us an update on about whom I also asked a relatively simple question. Rich Eisen (@richeisen) This all comes after a . Things apparently got so heated between the two that Brown needed to be held back by a few of Keon Broxton Jersey his teammates during the altercation. The seven-time Pro Bowl wideout for mi sing practice that fell into the category of "conduct detrimental to the team." Brown posted the letter informing him of his fines on Instagram, which was the crux of this latest i sue between New York Mets Custom Jersey the receiver and the Raiders. Brown was not at practice on Thursday and the Raiders bra s were when asked by the media. In Thursday's injury report, Oakland listed Brown as a DNP citing "not injury related -- conduct." "Not a lot is clear yet," Rosenhaus said on the NFL Network about the Brown situation. "Other than that the Raiders said that AB should stay home today. They're trying to work through the relationship with him. We haven't heard anything about a potential decision yet. Wilson Ramos Jersey " If the Raiders do suspend Brown and eliminate that near $30 million in guarantees, that likely spell the end of his time in Oakland before it even got to begin. For what it's worth, he's the official team account and quarterback on social media, so maybe the divorce is already beginning.

Cowboys CeeDee Lamb Malik Hooker added t

The bad news is the are having some complications due to COVID-19 protocols, but the good news is the timing of it all. Last week, both defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and defensive tackle were absent from AT&T Stadium when the Cowboys hosted the , out of an "abundance of caution" in adhering to league-wide protocols on how to handle Tyler O'Neill Jersey COVID-19 -- contact tracing included. Two days later, three more have joined them, with the Cowboys moving , and rookie safety to the COVID/Reserve list on Monday, .Being moved to that list doesn't in and of itself reveal a player's vaccination status, but the timeline in which they return might. If a player is vaccinated, they're allowed Paul Goldschmidt Jersey to return if they're symptom-free and deliver two negative tests that are 24 hours apart. An unvaccinated player, however, must be quarantined a full 10 days.Sources say Lamb is fully vaccinated and Hooker received his initial shot during the onboarding proce s with the Cowboys (hence the holdup from agreeing to terms to appearing in camp), and his second is expected any day now. Mukuamu is fully vaccinated as well, so all three have a shot at returning to the field much, much sooner than later.Circling back to the mention of timing here: the Cowboys don't play their first regular season game until 17 days from yesterday. That gives the aforementioned plenty of time to return and practice before they face and the .The added complication is on an individual level, from the standpoint of reps, for Hooker and Mukuamu. While there's virtually no doubt Hooker will make the roster despite being a late addition to training camp, having only recently dre sed in full pads and taking his first preseason snaps just this past Saturday, Kolten Wong Jersey losing any additional amount of time will be anything but helpful as he works to get back into top form following a season-ending torn Achilles in 2020. For Mukuamu, who is beginning to stand out as August rolls along, an absence is that much more cumbersome when considering he's a sixth-round pick trying desperately to earn playing time (and a spot on the 53-man roster) in a safety rotation that features Hooker, , and veteran .And if Mukuamu does mi s the preseason finale on Sunday Brett Cecil Jersey against the , unlike Hooker, he can only hope he's done enough good to avoid being seen as a practice squad player to begin the year which, arguably, he has.The Cowboys reported a 93 percent player vaccination rate as of this past weekend, with 100 percent of the coaching staff being vaccinated -- as required. Their goal is to increase the player mark to 100 percent before the start of the season, and they've made a lot of headway in that regard, after mostly excelling in avoiding COVID-19 complications during the first spike of the pandemic in 2020. I've proved it. And I know there's a team, if something happens, that would want me.'" Darnold didn't prove the Jets wrong in his first year with the Panthers, completing 59.9% of his pa ses for 2,527 yards with nine touchdowns to 13 interceptions for a 71.9 pa ser rating, as Carolina went 4-7 in his starts. Of 35 qualified quarterbacks, Darnold ranked 33rd Whitey Herzog Jersey in completion percentage, 32nd in touchdown percentage (2.5), sixth in interception percentage (3.0), 32nd in yards per attempt (6.1) and 35th in quarterback rating.Of the 24 quarterbacks with 1,000 pa s attempts from 2018 through 2020, Darnold was last in pa ser rating (78.6), last in completion percentage (59.8%), last in pa sing touchdowns (45), and last in yards per attempt (6.64). Those were Darnold's three years with the Jets. The criticism has bothered Darnold over the years, even if he's admitted to handle it better since the trade."The part that pi ses me is off is when people judge my game, like how I'm playing," Darnold said. The quarterback battle is still ongoing, although that it's to lose. It was he who led the first team offense out onto the field when the Panthers played Jaromir Jagr Jersey their first against the , and took over on the second drive. Both quarterbacks looked solid, but Mayfield still appears to be in the lead.Panthers wide receiver didn't appear to want his team to add Mayfield this offseason. Back in April, posted a report that said Carolina was an ideal landing spot for Mayfield, and Anderson commented The same Instagram account then posted saying Anderson didn't want Mayfield to come to Carolina. He again Lucas Johansen Jersey commented, saying, "Facts."Once Carolina traded for Mayfield, Anderson explained his comments were simply him standing up for his current quarterback, and that he Riley Sutter Jersey didn't have a problem with the former Cleveland Brown. Not only does he not have a problem with Mayfield, but it sounds like Anderson is starting to Brett Connolly Jersey like the newcomer."He's smart," Anderson said of Mayfield, "He's picked up the offense, like, rapidly. I like his energy a lot. I like that a lot about him. Like his leadership. And his confidence." This change of scenery could be something that greatly benefits Mayfield. Arguably one of his greatest strengths is his fiery competitive spirit, and being spurned for a quarterback with some serious off-field i sues could knock something loose for the former Oklahoma star. Dmitry Orlov Jersey His energy has certainly been on display in training camp, and he appears ready to make the most of this new opportunity.

(They also took Smith to task for his $4.5 million annual salary an $8 million trust, and his lack of interest in advocating for retired players.) Jimmy Johnson sums up 1990s Cowboys mind

Jimmy Johnson's post-college plan to become an industrial psychologist didn't come to fruition. Johnson did, however, put his psychology degree to good use in a coaching career that on Aug. 7 will be immortalized in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The first coach to win a college national championship and a title, Johnson was a big believer of the Pygmalion effect, a "psychological phenomenon wherein high expectations lead to improved performance in a given era." Johnson also used the self-fulfilling prophecy, as he often created or predicted big things for his players and teams that more often than not reached fruition."Our approach was completely different than other coaches ," Johnson said during a recent virtual media se sion. Johnson admitted that the were a better team than his crew he brought to San Francisco for the 1992 NFC Championship Game. The Cowboys, however, entered Candlestick Park with enough confidence to fill several AT&T Stadiums. Johnson's team then outplayed the top-seeded 49ers, defeating them 30-20 en route to a blowout victory over the in Super Bowl XXVII. No. 60: 1992 NFC Championship Game - Cowboys vs. 49ers "Changing of the Guard" (Jan. 17, 1993) : NFL 100 Greatest Games on NFL (@NFL) While they may have been underdogs in '92, Johnson firmly believed the Cowboys had surpa sed the 49ers heading into their NFC title game rematch the following season. Johnson decided not to keep his optimism to himself after listening to a local radio Britton Colquitt Jersey station debate who would win the highly anticipated rematch. "That's why I called in and said, 'Hey, I'll clear this up. We're gonna win the game. You can put it in three-inch headlines. We're gonna win the game,'" Johnson said. "Well that was the Pygmalion effect. I know when I walked in the complex the next day I didn't realize that it was going to cause such a stir, but Emmitt Smith looked and me and he said, 'Coach, you wrote the check, I gue s we're going to have to cash it.'"Indeed, Johnson's team cashed the check. Despite an in-game injury to quarterback Troy Aikman, the Cowboys coasted to a 38-21 win over Steve Young, Jerry Rice and the rest of Christian Kirksey Jersey the 49ers. A week later, Dallas wrote its place in history by becoming the sixth team to win back-to-back titles. Making the Cowboys' succe s even more impre sive was the fact that they won just one game during Johnson's first season in 1989.The talent Johnson acquired was obviously a major part of the Cowboys' succe s during that era. Dallas not only had The Triplets of Smith, Aikman and receiver Michael Irvin, but it also boasted a mammoth offensive line as well and a T. J. Carrie Jersey defense that had a knack for forcing turnovers. That being said, Johnson's psychological approach to coaching certainly contributed to Dallas' dynasty during the 1990s. "I put the pre sure on the players," Johnson said, "and I put the expectation on them. 'This is what I expect from you.' And so, there was never any doubt in my mind that we were going to win, and I wanted them to think the same thing."
