Debut documentary by Shanaz Ramzi bags Bronze Award!

Karachi, December 13, 2018: ‘Salute To Karima’ a debut documentary by Shanaz Ramzi, CEO STARLINKS PR and Events and trustee Heritage Foundation, has been selected as award winner in Spotlight Film Awards (Atlanta, Georgia) in the category of short films, it was announced here today. The documentary was chosen from among hundreds of films that were reviewed this year, and included in the first list compiled of the best independent films of 2018 by the judges. The film has bagged the Bronze Award.

Report on INTBAU Congress 27-29 November 2018

A successful two-day session of the INTBAU World Congress to research, educate, and engage as widely as possible on the value and relevance of traditional architecture and urban design was held recently at the Royal Society of Arts in London.

INTBAU (International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture and Urbanism) is a unique, established resource for global knowledge of traditional architecture and urban design. Their active network consists of individuals and institutions, who design, make, maintain, study, or enjoy traditional buildings and places.

As a preliminary to the Congress international delegates were invited the day before on 26th November to leave London early in the morning and arrive in Poundbury, the Duchy of Cornwall land -- the pet project of the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall, an ancient market town with a model urban extension -- five hours later. The guided tour of the quaint town culminated with HRH Prince Charles meeting the visiting delegates and giving them time one-on-one. Pakistan was represented by Heritage Foundation’s CEO Yasmeen Lari and Shanaz Ramzi, Hon. Vice-chair and trustee Heritage Foundation.

Visit of UNESCO Consultant to the Tomb of Muneer Maghfouri

On 9 December 2018, a visit was made by Mr. Rand Eppich, UNESCO Consultant and Mr. Kazi Ayaz Mahessar, Consultant, Department of Antiquities, Government of Sindh. They were conducted by Mr. Naheem Shah, Project Manager HF and shown the work of meticulous cleaning of the ground as well as masonry by trained female workers belonging to the former beggar community. The involvement of the community in heritage safeguarding is among the most important objectives of the work being carried out at the tomb with support from Prince Claus Fund, Gerda Henkel Foundation and Spiritual Chords.

Presentation at FPCCI Headquarters, Clifton, Karachi – 20 November 2018. A presentation was organized by Ms. Shanaz Ramzi, Chair, Humanitarian Architecture wing of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) in order to apprise their eminent members regarding the work being carried out by Heritage Foundation of Pakistan. This comprised work at Makli World Heritage with particular focus on a major humanitarian assistance initiative which is currently under way for impoverished communities living in the shadow of the World Heritage Site.

24th-27th October International Heritage Workshop at ZC3 Makli Necropolis

Three Days International Heritage organized in collaboration with Prince Claus Fund (PCF), Gerda Henkel Foundation (GHF), Heritage Foundation (HF),Spiritual Chords (SC) and Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP) concluded on 27th October 2018. The workshop was conducted at ZC3, Zero Carbon Cultural Centre, near World Heritage Makli Site. On 24th October, the audience was composed of international and national experts, public representatives, high level government officials, eminent architects, university students from Sindh and Baluchistan along with their faculty, and community members including women and a large number of media representatives, many of whom had come to Karachi. On 27th in addition to those who attended on 24th October, several distinguished diplomats also attended.

World Habitat Awards 2018 – team visit to HF Villages Mirpurkhas and Omer Kot

Amongst the ten finalists of 2018 World Habitat Awards, is the Heritage Foundation of Pakistan, chosen from over 200 projects, from over 80 countries around the globe, for initiatives focusing on Zero Carbon, Earthen Stoves for community women in various villages within Sindh, Pakistan.

On the 11th of November, World Habitat Awards Consideration Committee 2018, BSHF (Building, Social Housing Foundation) team, Director, Mr. David Ireland along Ms Celeste visited HF’s head office in Karachi for a meeting with the CEO, Ar. Yasmeen Lari, followed by a 2 day visit to HF’s Chuhla-villages in Mirpurkhas and Omer Kot accompanied by HF CEO and Project Manager, Naheem Shah.

Ambassador Kobler visits tomb of Munir Maghfouri

A visit was made by Ambassador Dr. Martin Kobler to the tomb
of Munir Maghfouri, earlier known as the Unknown Tomb, located
at the eastern edge of the Makli Necropolis World Heritage
Site. Earlier Dr. Kobler had addressed the gathering of diplomats
from US and Germany, high government officials including Director
General Archaeology, GoS, Commissioner Hyderabad and
Deputy Commissioner Thatta, university students and faculty from
Sindh and Balochistan, civil society organizations, the media and
community members gathered to attend the Heritage International
Workshop 24-27th October 2018. The Workshop was organized in
connection with CER-NET (Cultural Emergency Response, Prince
Claus Fund, Network) with two partners: The Daw’an Mud Brick
Architecture Foundation and Heritage Foundation of Pakistan.
