Below, we're going to highlight three of some of the more notable battles and di sect each contender.Contenders: , , , If everyone is healthy, this is probably James White's job. After all, he's held this post in New England for years and has been one of the more effective players in this spot throughout the . And that stretches beyond his time with . In the two full games he spent with at the beginning of last season, White caught 12 of his 13 targets (92.3%) for an average of 7.8 yards per reception. However, White suffered a hip injury in Week 3 against the and was forced to have season-ending surgery. The 30-year-old back -- who signed a two-year, $5 million deal with the club this offseason, may not be 100% to begin camp, which opens the door for other competitors to emerge.The next logical candidate to adopt some targets may be rookie Pierre Strong Jr., who was taken in the fourth round out of South Dakota State. He ran the fastest 40-yard dash of any running back at the NFL Scouting Combine and does have experience as a pa s catcher. In 24 collegiate games, the 5-foot-11, 205-pounder hauled in 42 receptions and averaged 7.8 yards per catch, which is coincidently the same White had in his short sample with Jones in 2021. Another contender -- who may also be fighting for a spot on the 53-man roster -- is J.J. Taylor. Over the previous two years in New England, the 24-year-old has shown an explosivene s that has been lacking within the Patriots offense. That said, he's hardly seen the field, playing no more than 16% of the offensive snaps in a given season. In that limited sample size, James Wiggins Jersey Taylor has averaged 3.5 yards per carry and hauled in five of his six targets for 12 yards.Finally, second-year back Rhamondre Stevenson shouldn't be overlooked for this role. He caught 14 of his 18 targets for 123 yards in his 12 games played last year. When healthy, Wynn has been slotted as the team's left tackle ever since they drafted him in the first round in 2018. In 2021, all of his 914 total offensive snaps came at the left tackle spot. Meanwhile, Trent Brown played exclusively at right tackle when he was on the field last year. That said, during Brown's first stint with the team back in 2018, he was the club's blindside tackle after Wynn suffered a torn Achilles over that summer. As the blindside tackle, the 6-foot-8, 380-pounder was a reliable piece to what was a LIII winning club.So, the big question is whether or not the minicamp swap was really just some offseason maneuvering by Bill Belichick to build up some versatility along the O-line or if it's something more that could evolve into a bigger switch for 2022.Contenders: , , , There has been quite a drop-off Bernhard Seikovits Jersey at the cornerback position over the last calendar year. Heading into the 2021 camp, New England had both and (recovering from injury) on the roster. Fast forward a year: Jackson has departed in free agency and Gilmore was traded during last season, leaving a ton of question marks lingering at outside corner. While it may be a competition for each spot, Jalen Mills should be a favorite to claim one of them. After all, he did start 16 games for the Patriots last season, giving him a leg up against the rest of the field. Six hundred ninety of his 931 total defensive snaps (including playoffs) came as an outside corner in 2021. In coverage, he allowed opposing receivers to catch 58.3% of their targets for a 12.6 yards per reception average.Another contender will be a familiar name in Foxborough: Malcolm Butler. The former Super Bowl hero made a surprising return to the Patriots this offseason after retiring due to personal reasons just before the 2021 campaign as a member of the .Butler's best days in the NFL came with the Patriots, so it's po sible that he can rekindle his magic in the secondary. That said, this also isn't the same player that departed after the 2017 season. Butler is now 32 and just mi sed an entire year. If he can look more like the player the had in 2020, when he allowed 62% of his targets to be completed and quarterbacks to average a 78.6 pa ser rating against him, he'll be a valuable piece to this secondary, but it's wise to take more of a wait-and-see approach here. Terrance Mitchell signed with the Patriots back in March on a one-year, $3 million deal. The 30-year-old has bounced around the league quite a bit over his career and is coming off a poor season with the during which he allowed a career-high 104.7 pa ser rating against him. That said, it also wasn't too long ago when he was a solid piece in the secondary and allowed a 72.3 pa ser rating in 2019.Lastly, and arguably the most promising, is fourth-round rookie Jack Jones. The Arizona State product and looks to be a legit contender for a starting spot. Jones was particularly lauded for his ability to work in man coverage, and Bill Belichick noted his pro system Max Garcia Jersey experience during his collegiate days at both USC and Arizona State this offseason.

It's a matter of when, and not if, the and make changes at quarterback. And while neither coach will provide a timetable of any sort, there are some looming natural guideposts that could indicate when the inevitable changes are made. It was a good week for the rookie cla s. Several had breakout performances and earned a spot on the list. As a cumulative list, consistency will ultimately determine who stays and who goes by season's end.Before diving into the list, here are some of the other notable performances from the weekend. The list could have easily expanded to 20 this week. interior offensive lineman (Round 3, Pick 90) played with great leverage and really only struggled with defensive tackle . left tackle (Round Lance Briggs Jersey 1, Pick 24) has performed exceptionally well considering the circumstances of having to make the transition post-Tyron Smith injury. wide receiver (Round 1, Pick 16) was out this week but is effective in the red zone because of his footwork. wide receiver (Round 2, Pick 52) has made a lot of plays outside of his frame and is starting to get on the same page with rookie quarterback .On the defensive side of the ball, the have added two competent pieces in the form of linebacker (Round 6, Pick 188) and edge rusher (Round 1, Pick 2) quarterback (Round 4, Pick 137) did some good things in his first start. His feel for pre sure and ability to move in the pocket allowed him to extend plays. His lone interception had nothing to do with his throw and everything with wide receiver not completing the catch.These rankings are not based on statistical performance but rather overall play. On one particular play, he snatched the ball over a defender with great strength. He had just three receptions for 27 yards.5 Seattle Seahawks OT Lucas was excellent in pa s protection Sunday against the . He did a good job of re-anchoring when pushed off his base.6 Jacksonville Jaguars OLB Walker is as physically gifted as they come on the football field. He is still developing a pa s rush plan and growing in that area while being great in run support. If he continues his trajectory, then he should validate Jacksonville's reasoning for taking a chance on him at No. 1 overall.7 New Orleans Saints WR Olave suffered a head injury on a pa s to the end zone in the third quarter and did not return. He ranks in the Alec Ogletree Jersey top 30 in terms of receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and yards per reception.8 Houston Texans FS Pitre played more of a traditional safety role in a Cover-2 look against the . It kept him out of his most effective structure, which is lining up over the slot or serving more as an overhang linebacker jumping pa s lanes and rallying to the football. He mi sed a few tackles in open space in the first half.9 Los Angeles Chargers OG Johnson plays with great leverage and is able to absorb contact. The most entertaining aspect of his game is his ability to serve as a lead blocker in space. It has to be disheartening for defensive backs to see a run play coming to their side with a tackle leading the way.11 Baltimore Ravens C Linderbaum does such a great job of playing the angles and Dick Butkus Jersey working to the second level. He has excellent mobility to make plays in the run game.12 Seattle Seahawks CB When a cornerback is as tall as Woolen, it is a sumed that they are high-cut and struggle transitioning acro s the field. To his credit, he is able to stay in-phase jumping routes to make big plays for his team. He is second in the NFL with three interceptions.13 Cleveland Browns CB Emerson got downfield on a 61-yard punt and stopped it from going into the end zone. He also made a fourth-down stop towards the end of the game allowing to come back on the field to throw another back-breaking interception. Emerson is just very physical Jeremiah Attaochu Jersey , particularly at the catch point.14 Miami Dolphins CB It is easy to overlook players in new roles when they are still on the field. A year ago, I am not sure how many truly appreciated how good was switching back and forth between left and right tackle. Kohou has played inside out for Miami when asked and performed admirably in the proce s.15 New York Jets RB Hall has been an excellent pa s catcher all season, but he really showed his capabilities on the ground this week. His vision and patience following blockers was on display. The Iowa State product has great balance through contact and is able to break defenders down in space.
